plaid flag It's official; my first full-length CD is finished. It's called Plaid Flag and so named by Isaah due to my well-publicized love of my flannel jacket. 12 songs for only $5, you can't go wrong. I personally think it's the best musical recording I've ever done on my own, and I'm really proud of the songs on the whole as well. The tracklist is as follows: 1. Space Cadet 2:44 2. Melissa Is Sick 3:08 3. Falling In Love and Other Works of Fiction 3:13 4. She Is Just a Pronoun 3:41 5. Invisible 3:51 6. Red Parade 4:23 7. Stamina 3:54 8. Mapp v. Ohio 3:07 9. Break Up With Your Boyfriend 3:59 10. So Gone 2:45 11. Down Again 4:37 12. Answer 4:19 Feel free to listen to a few of the tracks over at www.myspace.com/benkennedy. *creak* Hey folks. I know it's been a while since I updated here, but I've been so busy with other things, including potentially actual career plans, that the ol' blog(s) seem to have fallen by the wayside. However, good friend Drew has alerted me to the absence of any Orange Drink link on the venerated sidebar. So I fixed that, but in case you can't read the fine print, do your iPod a favor and hit up: orangedrinkmusic.comIn other news, I'm finishing up a stint at home before heading back to Williamsburg to begin work on my own new stuff...so let me know if there's anything you might like to see on an LP, EP or some combination of the two. So far, songs include: -she is just a pronoun -melissa is sick -down again -mapp v. ohio -space cadet -only when you're gone -surrender(?) -break up with your boyfriend -falling in love and other works of fiction and probably some others. Holla back if the spirit moves you. January 24, 2005
attempting to re-create the old 96x So lately I've been getting sucked into these I Love The 90s Part Deux shows, and realizing that growing up in the 90s was kinda cool. One of the big feelings I miss is the sheer excitement of listening to the alternative rock radio station in the area for the first time, not knowing any songs, just being blown away by the vastness of it all. We yearn for the good old days, not realizing that today is someone's future good old days. So I made a playlist on iTunes of all the songs I have that were played on ye olde 96X. Here's a sampling. 1. Temple of the Dog - "Hunger Strike"* 2. Blur - "Song 2" 3. Hum - "Stars" 4. The Verve Pipe - "Photograph" 5. Del Amitri - "Roll To Me" (this may have been more of a 94.9 thing, so sue me) 6. Jane's Addiction - "Jane Says" 7. Toad The Wet Sprocket - "Something's Always Wrong"* 8. The Rentals - "Friends of P." 9. Blind Melon - "No Rain" 10. Our Lady Peace - "Starseed" 11. Seven Mary Three - "Cumbersome"* 12. Alanis Morrisette - "You Oughta Know" 13. Green Day - "Geek Stink Breath" 14. Stone Temple Pilots - "Interstate Love Song" 15. The Verve Pipe - "The Freshmen" 16. Elastica - "Connection"* 17. Gravity Kills - "Guilty" 18. Jamiroquai - "Virtual Insanity" 19. Chemical Brothers - "Setting Sun"* 20. Bush - "Everything Zen" 21. Smashing Pumpkins - "The End is the Beginning is the End" 22. Soundgarden - "Blow Up The Outside World" 23. Nirvana - "In Bloom" 24. Weezer - "Buddy Holly" 25. Nirvana - "Heart-Shaped Box" 26. Collective Soul - "Precious Declaration"* 27. Hole - "Celebrity Skin" 28. Spacehog - "In The Meantime"* 29. The Presidents of the United States of America - "Lump" 30. Soundgarden - "Black Hole Sun" * denotes forgotten jewel of alt-rock goodness. Thank you, VH1, for validating my premature nostalgia. January 08, 2005

problems with the nature of blogs I don't like or want to write about myself. But, people like to read that sort of thing because they're voyeurs. Plus, the only time I ever feel like blogging is when I have some problem I want to vaguely hint at. It's lame. I guess I'm just lonely. And it's hard to complain about being lonely when just about everyone is convinced they're the loneliest person in the world. Nobody listens anymore. I'm so emo. Go buy rearviewmirror, it'd probably be the best album of the year if it weren't a greatest hits package. I've got to stop this. December 17, 2004
new speakers Now playing, David Usher's "Final Thoughts and the Last Day on Earth," which has a lame opening calliope number, but is actually a song that plays to his strengths at quiet, acoustic melodies. I got a new set of speakers today, and they're letting me hear things in a fresh way. I had forgotten how songs sound elsewhere. Today I said goodbye to some people I may never see again, people who, in a very short time, came to mean a lot to me. Only once before can I remember really leaving someone's company aware of the fact I may never again see them. I realize that this will be pretty common a few months' time, but it's unnatural right now. I wasn't ready for it, and as a result, the farewells seemed generic. I imagine both of the people I'm vaguely writing about aren't the types who enjoy long, meaningful, tearful goodbyes, and I will be honest and say I fought off my more sentimental urges and managed NOT to write either of them a detailed letter. Those don't go over very well. It's been a bittersweet start to break, and I invited everyone over to watch the game tonight, but I doubt anyone is going to show. I also found out that it doesn't seem like STD will be able to get much of substance together over break. I dunno. I'm not sure how I feel, as evidenced by a rare "personal-feelings entry." I need to be smarter about these things. And now, a brief summary of what I'm listening to right now: 1. N.E.R.D., "Am I High?" 2. Kings of Convenience, "I Don't Know What I Can Save You From" 3. I Mother Earth, "Pisser" (Live) 4. The Killers, "Jenny Was A Friend of Mine" December 04, 2004

it's early and there is work to be done Here's a quiz for those of you bored like me, or at least putting off work. "Oh, my head aches from each night we lie and fight in your bed" 2. "She talks to her television, changing channels with her mind" 3. "Moving on the floor now babe, you're a bird of paradise" 4. "We snuck out of the city, the night, it had come early" This is impossible. I don't know why I think anybody's even going to try. No fair googling, though. Man, this paper is a beast. |
